The Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is designed to prepare students for technical roles in spatial analysis and data visualization. The program uses a hands-on approach to solve real-world problems using the open-source software QGIS.

GIS 101 Foundations in Geographic Information Systems

In this foundational course, students examine the concepts, history, and applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS, along with geospatial data types, software tools, and spatial analysis techniques to solve real-world problems.

GIS 201 Cartography and Remote Sensing

In this course, students learn to design visually effective maps and acquire, process, and interpret remotely sensed data, such as satellite imagery.

GIS 301 GIS for Social and Natural Sciences

This advanced course teaches students how to design and implement spatial analysis workflows to address real-world challenges in both the social sciences and natural sciences.

GIS 401 Applied GIS Project

In this capstone course, students design, manage, and execute a comprehensive, independent GIS project from conception to completion.
